Boufal's late goal lifts Southampton over West Brom

Sofiane Boufal broke a scoreless tie in the 85th minute, and Southampton got by West Bromwich Albion 1-0 on a wet and rainy Saturday at St. Mary's Stadium.

West Brom (2-4-3), who lost Jonny Evans early on to injury, never really pressured the goal and were happy to sit and absorb the Southampton play. The Saints (3-3-3) had an early chance through Ryan Bertrand, who hit the post with a fine free-kick. West Brom, though, nearly went ahead through Jay Rodriguez, who fired wide after beating the offside trap.

With five minutes left, substitute Boufal charged from deep in his own half, skipping past several players, before standing up Gareth McAuley and curling a low shot into the bottom corner.
